Art space studio, one of the first retailers at the nearby RiverGate shopping mall, is on the way to Fort Mill.

Art Space closed its North Carolina location in the Steele Creek area of Charlotte on Sunday. A new shop window will open in the Gateway Commons shopping center on Saturday. The new spot near Towne Tavern and Breadsmith is about 10 minutes from the RiverGate site.

The shop offers glass melting, ceramic painting, pottery and other handicraft techniques. Art Space specializes in birthday parties and group meetings in addition to typical retail services.

Art Space opened in 2007, right outside a commercial downtown area that was affecting retail throughout the area. More recently, COVID-19 closed many retail stores.

Owner Franny Ginsberg posted on the studio’s Facebook page that it was a difficult decision to move, but thanked customers for their loyalty to the paint and pottery shop.

A store manager who answered the phone on Monday said items will be packed for the short trip to the new location in Fort Mill, where the team looks forward to welcoming returning and new customers when it reopens this weekend.

The new store is located on Highway 2000.160 in Fort Mill. Opening activities are scheduled for October 2nd at noon.
