BBVA and Anthemis invest one million euros in Wiserentr’s new model for renting electronics

According to a report by the European Economic and Social Committee, smartphones last about four years but are replaced in less than two years. Only 16 percent is recycled in Europe. Faced with this scenario, Wiserentr proposes a hybrid model to manage the entire life cycle of electronic devices – from the moment they are manufactured in the factory until they are recycled for later use. Her Rental service for online shops is already available on the PC Componentes website. It’s a more affordable option for consumers and also contributes to recycling and the circular economy.

“Get the latest technology for a lot cheaper while being kind to the environment: that’s the kind of strong value proposition we’re happy to support,” he said Christ Theiss, Head of BBVA Anthemis Venture Partnership at BBVA. “Combine that with an execution-oriented serial entrepreneur like Carlos Sánchez and a novel sales and business model, and you get exponential growth that translates into a much-desired positive impact on sustainability.”

Consumers get access to high-end technology at a fraction of the cost.

Carlos Sánchez, CEO of Wiserentr, has experience in launching disruptive business models in the fintech sector. He was the CEO of aplazamsthe instant financing service for online purchases integrated into e-commerce platforms as an additional payment option; ipagoo, which allows users to have current accounts in different European countries with multiple currencies; and RBC Dexia (currently RBC Investor & Treasury Services), among other things, one of the most important providers of investment services on a global scale.

“Consumers will benefit tremendously from being able to access the technology they want at a fraction of the cost and staying current with the latest technological capabilities,” said Sánchez. “We are very excited about the opportunity to bring our service and unique model to market with the support of our investors.”

Wiserentr has already started operations in Spain through electronics retail giant PC Componentes. At the moment, more than 100 items are already offering their rental model for sale, mainly smartphones such as Samsung or Apple. Product categories such as laptops and tablets will be added in the near future. In the medium term, the startup plans to expand into other European countries such as Portugal, France, Germany and Italy.

The successful spiral of letting and renovation

Wiserentr integrates its platform with those of e-commerce and telecom companies to offer the rental option to their customers high quality electronic devicessuch as smartphones, laptops, tablets, gaming PCs, etc. Therefore, the user purchases a new product but does not pay the full sale price, but instead pays a monthly fee for usage.

This method has numerous advantages for consumers as they have access to high-end technology, only pay a fraction of the price. You don’t pay for the entire usage time of the device, but for the usage time, which can be up to 24 months. In addition, consumers can decide to cancel the rental or to buy the device at any time. It also comes with User Support and Insurance in case it is damaged or stolen, and minimizes the impact of technological obsolescence by allowing consumers to regularly renew their devices. Now e-commerce and telecom company increase their sales, since the financial outlay for the consumer is lower. they also increase their loyalty rateas Wiserentr encourages consumers to renew their contracts with the same companies they signed up with the first time.

The Spanish startup also takes care of direct sales to end users in subsequent rentals renovated after their first use.
