HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – A little green goes a long way – at least that’s what scientists say about the power of plants and their effects on your mental health.

Now it’s easier than ever to shop online and have plants delivered to your doorstep.

Consumer reports has listed some online plant dealers to help you choose the right plants for your green space.

According to researchers, all it takes to spend 20 to 30 minutes in a green space every day is all it takes to reap the mood-enhancing benefits of plants.

“I like to see the plants, and I like to see the condition and choose the ones I think are the healthiest,” said Jodi Piepkorn, a self-proclaimed plant lover. “So I was a little nervous about ordering online.”

While online plant stores can raise your eyebrows, here are some retailers who can help you get started.

Big retailers like The home depot and Amazon offer a variety of plants online, but there are also curated collections.

According to consumer reports, The threshold and Bloomscapehave worked out collections with stylish pots and tips for caring for the plants sold, for example.

There are also several flower delivery services, such as Bouqs and UrbanStemsthat contain living plants in addition to standard flower arrangements.

“What we’re looking for here is what you get and if it’s worth what you pay for,” said Anna Kocharian of Consumer Reports.

Bloomscape and The Sill plants include brochures with care tips and online customer help.

A ZZ plant shipped in a 6-inch pot by The Sill costs about $ 63 before taxes and shipping.

The same plant from Amazon costs anywhere from $ 30 to $ 50. Depending on the seller, this can even include shipping.

If you want to give green as a gift, Bouqs and UrbanStems offer guaranteed delivery dates and often next day delivery. But it will cost you and the choices are limited.

A ZZ plant from Urbanstems costs about $ 80.

“If you’re looking for a more affordable option, consider swapping plants with friends or even joining a no-buy group on Facebook,” Kocharian said.
