Dane Creek starts a pet retail distributor

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO – Dane Creek Capital Corporation (DCCC) announced the formation of United Raw Distribution Inc. on February 8th. The new distributor will operate under DCCC’s subsidiary, United Raw Pet Foods, and will serve pet retailers throughout eastern Canada.

“We have always eschewed the direct-to-consumer model in order to support our specialty pet retail partners,” said Glen Tennison, DCCC’s President and Chief Financial Officer. “Retailers, increasingly supporting the growth of the raw pet food industry, are voicing the need for twice-weekly delivery as freezer space to store excess stock or ‘overstock’ in their stores is limited… We are seeing the move towards acceptance distribution of our groceries in most Sharing Eastern Canada as the best way for us to serve pet retail.”

United Raw Distribution will begin shipping United Raw Pet Foods brands including Mountain Dog, Naturawls, Pets4Life, Spring Meadows Cat Line and Baie Run, DCCC’s brand. In March, the new distributor will then expand its supply to the entire Spring Meadows and Dexter’s brand line. It will also distribute United Raw Pet Foods’ Tollden Farms products later in 2022.

“…To support our retail partners, we will offer over 20,000 square feet of storage capacity at our facilities, including over 5,000 square feet of deep freeze storage with state-of-the-art technology unparalleled in the pet industry; seven temperature-controlled refrigerated trucks, one of the largest fleets in the frozen commodity industry in Canada; and a state-of-the-art cloud-based ordering and routing system designed to improve customer service,” said Tennison.

United Raw Pet Foods will continue to do business with other third-party suppliers, including Anipet Animal Supplies in western Canada and Solutions Pour Animaux in Quebec. The company added additional storage and freezing capacity for its operations in Calgary, Alberta and Langford, British Columbia to work more closely with Anipet.

“In the West, given the geographic complexity of the region, integration will take a different form,” Tennison said. “We intend to work more closely with Anipet, our current distribution partner in Western Canada, by integrating our infrastructure with theirs to enable improved last mile delivery in certain parts of Alberta and British Columbia.”

DCCC’s formation of United Raw Distribution follows 19 acquisitions and investments in pet foods since 2017. Through United Raw Pet Foods, DCCC acquired manufacturer Tollden Farms in March 2020 and several pet specialty retailers in 2021, including: Growlies Pet Foods Inc. in January , The Wild Side Boutique Inc. in April, Lucky Paws Enterprises Inc. and A Pet’s Life Ventures Inc. in August, and Pets West Pets & Supplies Ltd. in October. Most recently, on February 1, DCCC and United Raw Pet Foods acquired Wodema Industries.
