Online grocery stores are offering group buying options to meet the needs of communities in lockdown when shopping for fresh groceries.
Counselor Helen Hu in Hongkou District said the community where she lives has made an application for deliveries to Freshippo’s group and is still waiting for grocery store staff to work on the arrangements.
Next-day delivery is available at four Pudong stores and eight Puxi stores as there are currently no individual purchasing options in the city.
Freshippo offers four types of combo packs ranging from basic groceries, drinks, vegetables and snacks, priced between 109 yuan ($15) and 299 yuan. Their availability varies in different regions.
If you order before 12 p.m., you will arrive at 5 p.m. the next day, if you order in the afternoon, you have to wait for the goods on the third day.

Freshippo’s convenience stores now cover 160 townships in Baoshan District and 150 in Pudong.
According to Freshioppo, the bulk purchase model could be four times more efficient than single delivery.
Bright Dairy offers eight types of fresh milk and yogurt for bulk purchase. Deliveries are made on the third day after ordering, with a minimum order value of more than 3,000 yuan ($470) for each connection.
Meituan delivers seven kinds of takeaway solid meals the next day in Xuhui, Putou and Jing’an districts, each costing 25 yuan. It requires at least 30 sets in a neighborhood connection.

Dingdong Maicai’s group shopping service has offered more than a million packs of vegetables to nearly 100,000 households in the city since it went live last week.
Dada Group’s JD Daojia delivery platform and grocers have also offered group purchase options for 100 or more orders in each community.
