Mother Dairy expects sales to grow 20 percent to around this fiscal year 15,000 crore on better demand for product, MD Manish Bandlish has said.

Delhi-NCR’s leading milk supplier said the growth will be driven by both increasing volumes and values of its various dairy products.

Sales of Mother Dairy, which also sells cooking oils and fruit & vegetables, were at 12,500 crore in the last financial year.

“We are expecting sales growth of around 20 percent for this financial year 15,000 crore,” Manish Bandlish, MD of Mother Dairy Fruits and Vegetables Pvt Ltd, told the news agency PTI on the sidelines of the IDF-World Dairy Summit held in Greater Noida last week.

“We are experiencing strong demand for all of our milk and other dairy products. Ice cream sales have increased significantly over the summer,” Bandlish noted.

Ice cream sales were impacted during the summers of 2020 and 2021 due to lockdowns caused by the pandemic.

From August 17, 2022, the company also increased milk prices 2 per liter in Delhi-NCR due to the increase in its procurement and other input costs. In March of this year, too, it increased milk prices by the same amount.

“Our milk procurement costs have continued to increase 2 per liter after we increased retail prices last month,” Bandlish said.

When asked if retail prices would increase further, he said: “We may consider it after 3-4 months if this trend of increasing purchase prices continues.”

Feed costs have risen sharply, forcing farmers to raise their selling prices. As a result, dairies’ milk procurement costs have skyrocketed and part of the increase has already been passed on to customers.

In addition to dairy, Bandlish said Mother Dairy’s cooking oil, fresh fruit and veg, and bread businesses also performed well.

In the bread segment, Mother Dairy will launch new products to offer a complete range to customers visiting their milk stands and Safal retail stores.

Mother Dairy began operations in 1974 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).

It was established on the initiative of Operation Flood, the world’s largest dairy development program launched to make India a dairy-enough nation.

Mother Dairy manufactures, markets and sells milk and dairy products, including cultured products, ice cream, paneer and ghee under the Mother Dairy brand.

The Company sells edible oils under the “Dhara” brand and fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen vegetables and snacks, unpolished legumes, pulp and concentrates, etc. under the “Safal” brand.

In Delhi-NCR, there are hundreds of dairy stalls as well as Safal retail stores.

Mother Dairy has 9 proprietary dairy processing plants. It also handles processing in third-party facilities. Total milk processing capacity is over 50 lakh liters per day. For fresh fruit and vegetables, the company has 4 own plants, while it produces edible oils in 16 affiliated plants.
