The Pass sets the bar for sustainable cannabis in the Berkshires

When The Pass opened its recreational cannabis dispensary in the small mountain town of Sheffield, Massachusetts in July 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic was on the horizon. While many companies were in the process of laying off or furloughing employees, the startup cannabis company was able to create 40 brand new jobs for the community at its newly opened vertically integrated cultivation, production and retail facilities.

For Chris Weld, owner and founder of The Pass and a longtime resident of Sheffield, the historic farming community nestled in the Berkshires’ tourist belt has always been the obvious choice for the company’s home base. “Sheffield is a small, quaint town with the right to farm and it felt authentic to place The Pass here as we grow the freshest cannabis possible in the most sustainable way possible while also providing good paying jobs for the region and Opportunities for growth offer us team,” he says.

For the past two years, The Pass’ tight-knit team of growers and producers have dedicated themselves to bringing their farm-to-label cannabis philosophy to Berkshire residents and visitors alike. It produces and processes its own flower at its two local grow facilities, offers The Pass branded products at its own retail location, and now wholesales those products to cannabis dispensaries throughout Massachusetts.

The Pass has evolved into a sustainable cannabis destination, establishing itself as an industry leader in the process.

Since 2020, The Pass has expanded its workforce to nearly 80 employees, expanded its cultivation facilities, converted a 40,000-square-foot historic factory into a state-of-the-art manufacturing and packaging facility, and expanded its cannabis offerings to nearly 200 products.

“We believe in choice, and the evolution of our menu from 70 products to over 190 products reflects our commitment to our cannabis community,” said Director of Retail and Customer Experience, Rochea Monteleone.
