What’s next for Om Sweet Home’s vegan bakery?


On July 31, the popular vegan bakery and café Om Sweet Home closed its doors after almost five years at 708 Anderson Avenue in Cliffside Park. But as the saying goes, when one door closes, another opens – and loyal customers of the bakery can look forward to something! We spoke to Dawn Pascale, the pastry chef and owner of Om Sweet Home, about what the future of the company looks like.

About the shop

The store had its official band break on Friday, February 17, 2020. Previously baked from a large kitchen in the Pilsener Haus in Hoboken since 2013, the facility in Cliffside Park was Dawn’s very first storefront.

The outpost was approximately 800 square feet and included a coffee shop and delicious baked goods served such as pastries, muffins, donuts, and custom cakes that were vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free, wheat-free, and palm oil-free, using non-GMO organic products that came with its original dairy-free butter alternative. Coffee was also offered.

Although the store was in Cliffside Park, Dawn’s delicious treats were available in Hoboken and Jersey City such as Black Rail Coffee, Bean Vault Coffee, and Bwè Kafe.

On the last day of July Dawn posted a video on Om Sweet Home’s Instagram page earlier announcing that the store is closed. She thanked her employees and customers over the years and reassured everyone that the path for the bakery is not over. “This is not a goodbye. Be curious, you haven’t seen me for the last time. “

The future of Om Sweet Home


We spoke to Dawn about what the next chapter of the company will be, and she told us about her next steps: “Getting business in a focused direction was a difficult decision because I knew both my retail space and mine Baked goods wholesalers are needed close. But the focus now is on our proprietary dairy-free butter alternative and some new products that are in development! “

For the time being, Om Sweet Home does not sell its baked goods to its local trading partners. “We miss our trading partners very much! If I can get the baked goods wholesale business going again with new staff and a new location, then definitely. Our existing dairy free butter business will continue as we grow and ramp up our operations. As soon as our butter is available in stores again, we will update all of them! “

Regarding a potential new outpost, she says, “I see Om will be opening a small retail space within the next 9-18 months. The concept would be different from the bakery we had in the last 4 1/2 years. “
